Another Successful Rheem Gas 27

When you are looking for a new continuous flow gas water heater you can’t go wrong with installing a Rheem 27. Rheem has long been a brand at the forefront of water heating technology and the 27 doesn’t disappoint. One of our latest installs was for a customer who had chosen a Rheem 27. What was involved? The installation of the new Rheem 27 was completed on the outside of our customers’ home. First, our technician drained and disconnected the existing two hot water cylinders. Then new pavers were laid alongside the exterior wall of the home and made level with the existing concrete. Then, the downpipe was sealed around the gas bottle location. The Rheem 27 was tested and the cold flow was adjusted to the shower.     The Rheem 27 is compact in design which is perfect when there isn’t a lot of space. Unlike traditional water heaters that take up space in a hall cupboard and heat and store water for the household to use, the Rheem 27 heats cold water as it passes through the unit. If you have long showers, or a large family drawing lots of water through showers, baths, the laundry and kitchen, traditional water heaters can run out of hot water. They then take upto 3 hours to fill and reheat the stored water. The Rheem 27 will virtually never run out of hot water. The Rheem 27 has an “IQ” function – this allows the unit to identify when there is a disparity in the water temperature and even the temperature out. This is especially important when there is frequent use of hot water. Rheem has developed and installed as part of the 27 unit a “Flame Safe” protection system. This is unique to Rheem products and provides enhanced consumer protection and built in safety. There is a digital display which displays any error codes for easy fault diagnosis and service reminders. If aesthetics is important to you or if the only place to install your Rheem 27 is viewable from the road, then Rheem has an optional recess box available which allows for installation into a wall cavity. There is also an optional pipe skirt available which allows for cover of the gas pipes for a more pleasing look. The New Rinnai 190L Stainless Steel Wetback Cylinder

Word has reached us that Rinnai is now offering a 190L cylinder as part of the Rinnai mains pressure stainless steel thermosiphon / wetback range. According to the Rinnai team, this product is designed to replace the typical 180L low-pressure copper wetback cylinder. The Rinnai 190L stainless steel wetback cylinder was released in September 2018, just a year after the release of the 250L and 300L cylinders. All of the tanks have a maximum working pressure of 850kPa and come with a 10-year warranty. How does it work? Like most wetback cylinders, Rinnai cylinders use the thermosiphon effect to circulate the mains pressure water through a coil inside the cylinder. This does away with the need for a pump, which means less energy cost and a stable supply of hot water – even in the event of a power outage. These wetback cylinders provide a modern way of using wetback systems to heat our homes. Traditionally, a wetback must be connected to an open-vented low pressure water circuit to prevent explosion due to thermal expansion. On the other hand, Rinnai’s thermosiphon cylinder allows you to connect a mains pressure hot water cylinder to a wetback fire. The technology is not new but there’s more to this product. Notable features The impressive thing with Rinnai thermosiphon / wetback cylinders is the duplex stainless steel 2304 construction of the inner cylinder, which is manufactured locally in New Zealand. This material has a duplex microstructure and contains low nickel and high chromium concentrations, which give it impressive qualities that make it suitable for residential and commercial water heating applications. These qualities include:
  • High thermal conductivity
  • Low thermal expansion
  • Corrosion resistance
  • High resistance to stress corrosion
  • High mechanical strength
  • Good fatigue properties
Its high-grade duplex stainless steel is also suitable for high-temperature applications. So the cylinder can be used with solar systems which tend to produce extremely high incoming water temperatures. Another feature worth noting is the eco inlet that makes connecting the cylinder with an open loop solar system or a hot water heat pump easy. Bosch Highflow 26e in North Shore

Another successful WATER HEATER BROKERS installation!

LOCATION: North Shore, Auckland UPGRADE TYPE: Upgrading existing leaking low pressure cylinder to gas instantaneous JOB VALUE TOTAL (circa): Under $ 2700 JOB DURATION: Under 5 hours JOB DESCRIPTION: Called to a leaking hot water cylinder, Water Heater Brokers responded within 2 hours from call to installation. We were the third company to be called but after a short conversation Andrew was convinced the he had the right company to action his hot water cylinder emergency. The system was setup on LPG as the cost to thrust a new natural gas main to the property by Vector was ridiculously high, additionally the owner would have had to pay a monthly meter rate before even paying for gas making the LPG decision very easy to make. A central spot for the LPG bottles was found (allowing the provider easy access for replacement) and pavers put down to enable the safety chain and LPG regulator to be mounted back safely onto the property. Challenges included rerouting the hot water feed back into the property in way that would not increase his waiting time on delivery . Pricing included an electrician, all required valves and regulator, gas certification and all warranties. The result was endless hot water at mains pressure! Andrew was also pretty happy to see that we were able to install a limiting valve that enabled him to continue using his existing low pressure tapware without having to spend a fortune. Bosch Condens installation in Christchurch

LOCATION: Christchurch UPGRADE TYPE: Replacing a 20 year old Saturn system hydronic boiler JOB VALUE TOTAL (circa): under $ 5.200,00- JOB DURATION: Circa 6 hours JOB DESCRIPTION: There are over 20000 Saturn boilers in the Auckland area alone that are over 20 years old and will most likely have to be replaced in the near future. This new Bosch condensing boiler replaced such a Saturn central heating boiler that failed because the heat exchanger punctured in multiple locations. With nowhere to source replacement parts and the high probability that several other integral parts have reached their operational “life span” the most economical and logical solution was to repair but replace the boiler with a more compact, modern and highly efficient central heating boiler. This included re-flashing the roof and creating new ceiling penetrations that had to flanged and tidied up. LOCATION: Christchurch UPGRADE TYPE: Upgrading existing low pressure hot cylinder to gas instantaneous JOB VALUE TOTAL (circa): Under $ 2600 JOB DURATION: Under 4 hours JOB DESCRIPTION: The 40 year old Simplex low pressure hot water cylinder started making funny noises and with the upcoming renovation to gain more floor space it simply made sense to tackle the hot water installation immediately and get it out of the way. With access under the house this installation was relatively very easy in terms of access. Keeping regulations in mind even the positioning of the LPG bottles and Bosch Highflow was easily achieved.   Challenges included: the most difficult part of the job was not the plumbing but rather the electrical works. The existing hot water cylinder electrics didn’t comply to start with and this required the electrician to re-run new wiring from the electrical board to provide an external power point. . Installation of central heating in Auckland

Radiator install LOCATION: North Shore, Auckland UPGRADE TYPE: Upgrading existing low pressure hot water cylinder to a combination heating and domestic instant supply system. JOB VALUE TOTAL (circa): Under $ 15.700,00- JOB DURATION: Circa 4 days JOB DESCRIPTION: A typical 70’s Kiwi weatherboard home with a 3 meter ceiling height that gets pretty cold during the winter days. This young family have been finding it very difficult to maintain a warm environment and with a new born along the way they decided to invest in their health and comfortability. In the last 2 years they have been heating their home with electric panels which has cost them a small fortune in power. Bosch_radiator A free site visit was arranged and a quote underway within 3 days of first contact. Our operations manager was quickly able to establish a quick method to retrofit this home and size the radiators in a way that would maintain an even heat throughout the premises. On average 1 – 2 KW radiators per room achieved the outcome this family was looking for. Additionally the opportunity was taken to upgrade the existing low pressure hot water system to mains pressure by using a combination boiler which achieved this outcome at a minor additional cost. With the price of gas being much lower than the price of electricity and usage of a super-efficient condensing boiler saving will be noticeable immediately. Challenges included the increase of gas service pipe to accommodate the additional MJ volume. Access to internal walls with limited space from underneath the house to position radiators correctly is a common challenge with retrofits. In this case a new extension was made on a concrete slab which challenged our technicians to provide F/R services in the correct location. After 4 days the installation was complete. Challenges included having to provide electrical services to the new position of the heat pump hot water cylinder. The Compress 3000 is relatively heavy requiring two people to transport, in this case a man truck could not be used and the route was very inconvenient requiring two guy over 1 hour to position in the correct location. As recommended by any Heat pump hot water cylinder manufacturer these cylinders may not be transported horizontally to ensure compressor lifetime assurance. This makes handling a bit difficult but not never impossible.
